On November 19, 2018- Shadabadi Bhagwati Devi Bhandari, resident of Fidim Nagar Palika-4, got the first digital national identity card in the country from Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, the home minister of Panchathar district on Monday.
In order to launch a National Identity Card in the country, Special Guest at a function organized in the District Coordination Committee premises, Bhandari again handed the national ID card to Minister Thapa. The digital ID card will currently replace existing paper citizenship.
Bhandari, 101, was brought from his residence to the venue of the Fidim Municipality, which is about 3 km from there. Home Minister Thapa arrived in a helicopter in Nepal. Provincial Chief Minister Sherandan Rai and Minister of Economic Affairs and Planning Indra Ango also attended the function, which was headed by Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai.
Speaking to the post after receiving the first national ID card, Bhandari said that he did not know what anyone can do with the card. "I do not know what will happen now," she said, "my grandson knows this." Bhandari said that his grandson Deepak brought him to the place and said that the minister will give his identity.
While addressing the function, Home Minister Thapa said that the government has detailed information of its citizens on the digital ID card. He said that the digital ID card was launched for development and prosperity.
Only two ID cards were distributed from the venue. Government officials planned to issue 50 other ID cards through the district administration office in Panchashar on the first day of the card distribution. Today national ID cards were also distributed from the Central Administrative Headquarters of the National Government of Nepal, the Lion court.
Chomendar Nupen, director of National ID Management Center, said that after collecting the ID card holders by the government officials, they will receive an SMS alert in their cell phone to collect the card. He said that the test of SMS alert system proved successful as card holders got information.
According to Nupen, 2,429 ID cards have been brought to the arbitrage and others are being printed. By Sunday evening, the figure of about 52,000 people gathered in Panchashar for the national ID card pilot project was collected. Data collection was started in the district from June 19th.
As part of the pilot project, the Center is planning to issue digital ID card to the civil servants working in the Panchathar, 117,000 people and civil servants working in the Singhala court. In the second phase, the Authority is planning to distribute 3.5 million ID cards in 15 other districts. The government is planning to distribute ID cards in 25 districts and 2120 districts in the financial year 201 9-20 and in 2120 districts.
The eligible new electronic card with biometric data of Nepali citizens provides unique ID number. The digital ID card includes the personal data of the family name, name, address, father's name, mother's name, photo and two thumbs and four fingerprints of two index fingers.
Ten years after its establishment, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National ID Management Center started printing digital identification cards from November with the support of Asian Development Bank.
